If the relation between will or desire and action is taken to be causal, we can consider ourselves to be fortunate in finding that when, say, we want to open a door, at the very least an attempt to open the door ensues, since it is in no way foreign to the notion of cause that such a desire should have issued in a quite different effect,as, say, that of taking off our shoes.

I don't know what you're going on about Nadler. I'm clearly not as clever as I thought I was.

The question is ultimately choosing what to react to. Reacting (ie thinking) after reading some Adam Phillips is a joy. Reacting to people who piss you off by going into a crowded lecture theater and shooting them is a crime.
