But someone picked you from the bunch, one glance was all it took

I actually don't have anything funny to say about this.

But as Death is supposed to have all the best lines, I chose a 'gag' from this website (created an hour after Jacko joined the choir invisible) for the final panel.

Rest in peace, Michael.

Hell is for children

funny-games

I've always thought that Michael Haneke's Funny Games would make an excellent picture book for 3-5 year olds. An article in yesterday's Guardian only confirms this impression.

(Apologies to Polly Dunbar for appropriating Tilly and Friends for Prozac's sadistic impulses.)

Now that I am a Property Owner, methinks I need a will.

This has also given me the pleasure of being able to work out
the nuts and bolts of my funeral. If you're in the UK when it happens, consider yourself invited. The more the merrier etc.

A little warm death won't hurt you none

focus-on-death

[Soundtrack]

If like Jim you're still suffering from the 'Blue Monday' come-down, apart from a little warm Cassandra Wilson, may I suggest this book I'm reading at the moment: life-affirming stuff.

I'm doing very well. I can block out the present and the past now.

this-vale-of-tears

Prozac is listening to my current three favourite tracks off the new Morrissey album Years of Refusal:

-All You Need Is Me: egomania, self-pity, recrimination, rejection, disappointment, death + tambourines!
-When I Last Spoke to Carol: self-pity, recrimination, disappointment, dejection, suicide + Mexican trumpets and guitars!
-Sorry Doesn't Help Me: self-pity, recrimination, rejection, dejection, despair + patricidal fury!

How much is a sixty-year-old woman worth?

best-deal-going

Ma is looking for a job at the moment.
If anyone would like to pay her a little more than her current offers from Jules, Therapist, Nadler and Death, you know where to find her.

Counterfeit vouchers

"Accepting one's personal death means facing a number of other unpalatable truths, each of which has its own force-field of anxiety: that one is finite; that one's life really comes to an end; that the world will persist nonetheless; that one is one of many - no more, no less; that the universe does not acknowledge one's specialness; that all our lives we have carried counterfeit vouchers; and, finally, certain stark immutable dimensions of existence are beyond one's influence. In fact, what one wishes has absolutely nothing to do with it."
(Yalom, p120)

The more you ignore me, the closer I get

The-more-you-ignore-me

I always used to think this song was about an embittered ex, stalking his former lover. But I now realise that it has a wider remit: death, disappointment, the ego stalked by a hungry, braying demented id(iot).

The squalor of the mind.

Getting better?

"The terror of death is ubiquitous and of such magnitude that a considerable portion of one's life energy is consumed in the denial of death. Death transcendence is a major motif in human experience - from the most deeply personal internal phenomena, our defenses, our motivations, our dreams and nightmares, to the most public macro-societal structures, our monuments, theologies, ideologies, slumber cemeteries, embalmings, our stretch into space, indeed our entire way of life - our filling time, our addiction to diversions, our unfaltering belief in the myth of progress, our drive to 'get ahead', our yearning for lasting fame."

(Irvin D. Yalom, Existential Psychotherapy, p41)

Is there at all anywhere in this lavender sky?

is-it-vanity

I found a falling-apart copy of Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales, illustrated by W.Heath Robinson at a local charity shop this afternoon. Already the little pills have started running around inside its pages...
