The whole way neighbors "connect" in America frightens me a little. When you have kids, you get to know you neighbors who also have kids (mostly to protect your children). When you don't have kids-you say hello in the driveway but who really KNOWs what's beyond the door? And the only people who really care are the elderly.

I think the fact that Americans say hello to each other in the driveway as faintly positive. You'd be lucky to get even that in grumpy old Britain.
