The Hora of Unhappiness

The Hora: possibly the naffest dance ever to grace a festive occasion.

Like the Kolo which can go on and on and on.
Aren't you too young to know Ron and Eth Glum?

Naff or not, the Hora is one dance I can do, not with grace, but at least with a manic smile on my face.

Stultifying. Naffest. I wish I could speak like that in regular conversation and not get looked at as if I am a Parisian English Lit prof trying to talk to a Mongolian camel.

I must say, that video is rather catchy.

Chorea? Isn't that some kind of plague?
This evening I watched a tasering demonstration put on by the local Police department. According to them, electrocution is no big deal. It's just us wussy civilians that object. They have a point. I hate pulling socks out the dryer.

Oy. I can do a great Hora, as my J-genes have no rhythm needed for real dancing.

One night, Marlow happens upon Kurtz, obviously near death. As Marlow comes closer with a candle, Kurtz seems to experience a moment of clarity and speaks his last words: "The hora!, the hora!"

Reminds me of being a child-and spinning around in a circle until you puke, pass out or fall down. Maybe that was the Okie version of the Hora.

We'd sometimes try it as a group-but you can't get a good dizzy spin without going solo.

ElizT. Bonus points for naming the actors who played Ron & Eth and also Mr. Glum.

Ms T - I do know the Glums. We often dine together of an evening. Though I find Ethel has never been the same since her hysterectomy.

Handmaiden, you are going into the Denizens sidebar and shall soon be making guest appearance in P'ville as our Politico-On-The-Make. Been reading a lot of Doonesbury recently and feel I can express some of my Trudeauness through you.

Stream, I do unfortunately talk like this in 'real life' too, but am lucky that I work in a profession that actually pays me to be pretentious.

Nads. Um...no comment.

Kay. I think you've hit on something here. Jews not being big drinkers (I'm clearly the exception that proves the rule), they've got to do something to feel hammered.

Frute. Noted. Potential inspiration for a new storyline.

June Whitfield, Jimmy Edwards, but I'd have to look up Ron's, dammit.

stream! i recall being in college, drunk and at a frat party (psu in case anyone gives a ... orange), and one of my friends actually asked me: why do you use such big words all the time?

well, you've all read my comments and blog entries nowadays. clearly i've lost a large quantity of brain cells along the way and it's no longer an issue.

just sayin'.

Gee Wizz! Thanks, I think.

One thing I find interesting about politics... Once you decide to throw your hat into the ring, by running for public office, EVERYTHING becomes an issue that revolves around politics. Some people think that it's because once you start down that road, your lust for power, just grows & grows. I don't think that's true (not in my case, anyway). I think it's because everything you do is potential fodder for public scrutiny & ridicule. So you naturally try to think one step ahead.

orangfrute- PSU, Penn State or Portland state?
I went to SHK, School of Hard Knocks & I have tattoos to prove it.
